Can anyone tell me if a mirror was ever mounted on the top inside of the windshield frame? I have an original frame with a military looking bracket bolted above the glass that a round mirror would fit in.
Thanks.
Rick

I've placed several in my own jeeps that a future owner would belive might be military because they came from a military surplus source. Willys didn't put one up there but I'm sure that at some point during the Willys military vehicle presence in the armed forces from 1941 thru about 1970 someone in the military must have stuck one up there.

If it looks like it fits with the rest of the jeep, I would consider keeping it in place as a little extra visibility never hurts.

On an M38A1, it's easy to mount a center mirror. I used a bracket from an M151. Replace the two bolts that hold the hood open latch with longer ones, and drill the M151 bracket to match. Attach the bracket to the bolt ends with nuts and lockwashers. For a mirror, I use a 4 inch truck bullseye mirror. Get the black one and paint it OD.
