Hi,
I've been lurking for a while and felt it was time I let everyone know I am here. I am the machinist at Then And Now Automotive. I am the one that has been rebuilding the fuel pumps here for the past 10 years. Reading thru some of the threads in here, the good and bad feedback is great to hear. If anyone ever has a problem with one of the pumps I rebuild, please let me know, I stand behind every single one of them, and do my best to make it right. I am not here to sell anything, I am here to lend a hand if anyone has a question or two.

The questions that pop up most often are:
1-Is there a way to insure the main pump body sent in is returned or the same type is substituted if the original is not rebuildable? This is an issue for the folks that are making accurate restorations and require a pump with or without the manual pump handle.
2-Are all applicable AC service letters and bulletins incorporated in the overhauls?
3-Are all fittings, adapters and work order residue returned with the rebuilt pump to the owner?

1. It's not very often that a pump body itself is bad enough that it has to be replaced. In fact, I personally have never run into that scenerio since I've been doing this. Any pump that is sent in to be rebuilt, is the exact one that goes back to the customer. I have had some of the primer lever parts made by a local machine shop, and have them here if needed. I have the lever, and the shaft that is swedged to it.
2. I have a few of the service bulletins for the AC style pumps, and the changes are made if needed. Unfortunately I haven't seen any on the Carter pumps.
3. Everything that comes out of, or off of a pump during the rebuild is returned, all sealed in a plastic bag. If there are any fittings, I usually put them in a seperate smaller plastic bag in with the rest of the old parts.

I had my fuel pump rebuilt by Then and Now last July (2011). They gave me back my original pump, rebuilt, and all the excess replaced parts. It was educational for me to see what some of the internal parts looked like after years of wear-and-tear.
I live about 40 miles away so drove down to drop off and pick up myself and can say they were great. Very happy with the results.

About the only thing that comes out of a pump that I don't return to the customer is some of the strange looking critters that I've removed from either the fuel or vacuum sections. Some of them are pretty interesting. _________________ www.then-now.com

Mike, you may already know that the AC fuel/vac pump
you rebuilt for me last week is now on my bench ready

Question #1 came from a compliant aired on this and the G503 sites last year. I believe the customer said a hand primer lever pump was submitted for rebuild and a non-hand primer pump was returned. _________________ Wes K

The only Carter pump I ever see in a Military application goes on a M715, and they don't use a priming lever. Unless I have just never had one in for a rebuild. If someone has a Carter Military pump with a priming lever, please post a picture of it. _________________ www.then-now.com

Sorry. I don't recall that incident, and I'd sure like to talk to that person. Was there a thread where this was discussed? I have never substituted a non priming lever pump for one that originally had one, and never would. _________________ www.then-now.com
Yes there was a thread last year where a customer complained he sent in a hand prime pump for his M38A1 and received a non-hand prime pump back. He also stated he called your company and was told there is no guarantee that the same housings will always be returned. You'll have to use the site search function to locate the post either here or on the G503 board. _________________ Wes K
