Hey Guys, I need some Engine ID Help. I've posted the link to my photo album with pics of the engine that he sent me. I contacted this guy and he says he has an F 134 Engine for sale. He sent me pictures and it looks nice (although I need to put it together). I just want to make sure it is an F134 engine before I buy it though. I know nothing of engines and this is my first build and I'd like to get it right. Any help on ID'ing this thing would help out tremendously as this engine is close to my house and at a good price. He did say the bottom was civilian and the top was military. thanks in advance. |

It's a CJ5 engine and will work perfect in your jeep. Looks like the PO started to rebuild the engine. Also looks like it was tanked, machined, crank ground, ect. Could be a great deal depending on the price. If you can get it for around 200 I would jump on it. Remember if it's not running there is risk so don't pay too much.
I ran into a similar deal where the owner didn't finish a CJ F-Head rebuild but did most of required machining. I ended up putting 200 into it to finish it up. I assembled it myself though. This is the best way to score an engine because you usually get a good deal and you know it's put together correctly.
If you do get it, have a machine shop double check the machining and maybe re-hone it.

I figured for $75 I can't go wrong. I'm just glad it will work in my jeep. I'm looking for a motor pool restoration, not a museum quality. I'm just glad to know it will work and thank you for the help!

75 BUCKS?? OH YEAH!! Are you getting any accessories in the deal??
Water pump? fuel pump? carb? generator? starter? distributor? All this stuff will add up if you gotta get em a piece at a time..

He said it was a good base for an engine. I'm assuming it doesn't have everything it needs, but I have some contacts that'll help me out. I can also probably trade my v8 that is in the jeep for some of the parts because He needs a V8 for his jeep truck or something along those lines. |

"Block is tanked and clean. crank is ground .10 under (I think) and ready to go." That's what he said about the machining and things. |

Still, make sure you have a GOOD machine shop check it out anyway. Never take anyones word when it comes to engines.

yeah. I'm going to take it to a good one here in richmond and have it checked out just in case. But yeah, for $75 I figured I couldn't go wrong and hopefully have a great engine!  |

good deal!
that head looks Military to me. It has the plugs flanking the carb inlet that serves for plumbing of fuel primer included in the Arctic kits.
the block is def civvy.
-good thing is it appears the PO had hardened valve seats installed on the block and head!
-I dont notice the cam ..is it included?

Ok, So I picked up the engine this weekend. Here's what came with it.
3 Cams (2 F head and 1 L head)
1 Crankshaft
3 fuel pumps
2 Carbs
2 blackout lights for fender
Engine (block and head and the guts for it)
1 24V starter in working condition
and a whole bunch of other stuff. $75 bucks was a $&% of a deal. |
