Yes my mistake it is a vinyl coating, however, as you can see, it has the Dutch manufacturer stamped on the inside of the cover. I just naturally assumed it was produced by them. If it wasn't what role did thay play in in the canvas top which nesscessitated putting their name on it. Were they just the importers?
I had the same top. I did not like it and sold it here on the forum to a guy in Canada. He is in an area with lots of rain so the vinyl is good for him. Have seen this type of top only on Dutch or European jeeps. The normal canvas with the small window looks much better(to me), but the large window is probably safer on the road or when backing up. The vinyl top was also stinky, completely different from the canvas. It is harder to fold and takes up a lot more space. Outside of these things it is excellent
It would appear that company produced the top and failed to use the Dutch number code. _________________ Wes K

The nsn inside the the vinyl top is I suppose the right one and it's manufactured by that company "gebr van de Werf. The Nato Country Code is used to record which country was the first to codify the item as a nsn and does not necessarily have to mean in which country it was produced, in this case a top for a jeep m38a1 is of US origin so the nsn has a US country-ID. Nsn's are used by every nato-memberstate and even some countries outside nato.
Other country-ID's are for instance:
12- Germany
13- Belgium
14- France
17- the Netherlands etc
The vinyl top instead of a canvas one was commonly used in the later part of it's service in the Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) because of the wheatherconditions in Europe. The appr 7500 Nekafs in the RNLA served for appr 40 years!! The first 20 years in units of the regular army. When the nekafs in the regular army were replaced by the landrover 88 and 110, the remaining Nekafs went to reserve-units until the mid nineties. Nowadays the RNLA uses the Mercedes 290GD instead of the landrover.
And indeed some Nekafs had a fiberglass bottom to replace the original in case of corossion, that mod was done by the defencedepartment.
