#1...The engine ground strap, where does it connect to the block? On my block at the lower right front corner there is a 3/8" fine thread stud.
Is that where the ground strap should connect?
#2...Generator belt tension bracket mounts to one of the water pump bolts which is 5/16"thread. The bracket has a hole in it about 7/16" to 1/2" I.D., Now is the bolt that goes in the bracket to the water pump a special shouldered bolt to fit the diameter of the bracket mounting hole? Or is it just supposed to be a 5/16" bolt with a shoulder. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Hello Ken,
#1-The ground strap (WO# A1098) is bolted to the front engine mounting plate about an inch or two below the generator with a 3/8"-24NF-2 nut (WO# 52542), 3/8-24NF-3 x 1 bolt (ORD # 181637), 2 each 3/8 x .985 internal/external tooth washers (one under the head and one under the nut)(WO# 53020) and a 3/8 standard split lock washer (WO# 52708).
Then it fastens to one of the two mount bolts for the left sideframe mounted engine mount cushion's 5/16" bolts usingf a 5/16 internal/external tooth washer (one under the head and one under the nut) (WO# 53025).
#2- If you have the fairly straight M38 bracket then small hole to generator gets a (ORD# 423571) 3/8x16NC-2x1 bolt with integral external tooth lock washer and and (ORD# 120394) large area flat washer 13/32" IDx13/16"ODx.065 thick.The big hole uses a shouldered fine thread bolt (ORD#7371188 WO#A1468 Also used on the MB)3/8"-24x7/8". (Ord# 120369) nut 3/8"-24NF-2, two(ORD#120382) 3/8" split lock washer and nut at the front mount plate below the water pump and almost even with the oil return line fitting in the front timing cover.
Thanks Wes, Got the hole in sight now. My eye first zeroed in on that stud sticking out on the block. I went back and looked at the other side of the block and there is a stud there also. They are protruding thru the front plate. There are no nuts on the studs. Maybe there should be to help tighten up the front plate. What do ya think?
My bracket has a little off set in it. And the mounting hole is 1/2" I.D. It would seem to me that a bolt cut with a 1/2" shoulder and threaded to 5/16" would be what I need here. I don't know. Anyway I'll try to send you a photo of the bracket after while. I'm on my way to do Honor Guard service for few hours.

The shoulder bolt has a 1/2"diameter shoulder which is 1/4" wide. The 3/8"" threaded area from the edge of the shoulder to the tip is fine thread and measures 5/8" long. _________________ Wes K

No 5/16" fine threaded bolt is gonna fit in my water pump mounting hole where the generator bracket mounts to. They are coarse threads. But whatever, I'll have to come up with a bolt cut with that 1/4" thick shoulder.
If I can't find one, I might be able to make a spacer to act as a 1/2" shoulder to fit around a 5/16" bolt.
Here is the photo of the bracket. But you probably don't need it now.
Instead of man handling the heavy generator I used a sling attached to the chain fall to support the weight. It went in real nicely.
