my 1944 mb i just bought has 064686AR stamped on the front of the block above the water pump. Just started looking over the old girl. What will this number tell me?

That will depend on what the casting number is on the lower right side of the block.

Looks like the block number is 641087

That would be a 1947 or newer block which , by the way came in four different evolving configurations. The number you found on the pad above the water pump is missing it's prefix which would be "CJ2A" or J or P or U. Since no serials started with "0" I would have to assume you either misread the "0" or there are some more digits and a prefix to the left of the "0".

The suffix letters represent the undersizes or oversizes it left the factory with.

I found a MB engine it's complete but the owner said he has need tried to turn it over. I know what that means. He want $800 and my engine. I put my jeeps to look like they were new but do not try to show them.
I have not started this jeep still working on my M38, about finished.
Should I buy the engine or run with want I have. I have to rebuild the engine in the MB now. The MB is a 44 would the army put this engine it it?

There is a remote possibility that on occasion a 641087 casting may have been installed in a MB while the MB was still in military service.
