If any one is interested in converting a 24 volt to 12 volt gas gauge,Summit racing offers a adjustable float assembly made by VDO that works in the m38a1 tank and is nearly a bolt on deal, use a VDO gauge and it works like a million bucks with out any tampering with the tank. If interested I can supply part numbers. good luck mine works great.

Does the sender mounting holes match the holes in the tank?

When you say adjustable sender are you talking angles and height or resistance?

When you say it works great with the VDO gauge then does it not work with the original 24 volt military gauge.

Does VDO offer a gauge that reasonably resembles the other 3 military gauges?

the mounting holes are almost perfect had to increase size of holes only its adjustable for depth, swing and position.it is 12 volt not 24 it is available in three different ohs ranges. no the gauge doesn't match,I built a driver not a museum piece I have one of those that I'm afraid to scratch. its possible that other gauges would work if the ohm rating would match.

I asked those questions to point out the type of information that should be included with a post that introduces a work around or new solution to a problem. It was meant to improve the learning process for folks and was not antagonistic or argumentative. I was hoping for a more positive reply. IE

Quote:
Does the sender mounting holes match the holes in the tank?
No but they are very close. Simply enlarging them will make the unit fit.

When you say adjustable sender are you talking angles and height or resistance?
Only adjustable for angle & height. It does come in various ohm ratings which are_______-, _________, & _________! But it is rated at 12 volts.

When you say it works great with the VDO gauge then does it not work with the original 24 volt military gauge.
No it will not work with the 24 volt gauge. It may work with other 12 volt gauges so long as the Ohms ranges are the same.

Does VDO offer a gauge that reasonably resembles the other 3 military gauges? No it does not match the original military gauges in appearance but VDO does offer the following looks, finishes & colors: ______________!

I didn't mean to sound like a smart ass. If anyone was interested I would gladly post the way that I did it and the part numbers. I tried one from kaiser willys for a cj2 and that didn't come close sent it back. I built a street rod before and used one like it from napa I think but this one is from summit racing. I ve had my trucks in a number of shows and get tired of the nit picking that some people do. a lot of people don't know the difference in what they look at. I have been a body man for 35 years and a lot of what I see in museums shouldn't be. thank you mike
