Howdy all,

On the back side of the bell housing, where the pilot shaft of the starter comes in from the front side, there is a gaping hole which looks like it is trying to attract dirt into the bushing.
I have looked througth the Army parts lists, and can find no mention of any plug.
I'm sure that it needs one, and I can make one out of felt, (bad from water retention), or some sort of rubber plug.
Does anyone know if there is a standard part for that, and if so, where can one be obtained?
Thanks, CZ

It's listed in your M38 ORD 9 SNL G-740 parts manual page 31 five up from the bottom of the page Plug, expansion, steel, 3/4" dia. Also referred to at the auto parts store as a welsh plug.
