Gentlemen:
Is there any special protocol I should follow to break in a newly over-hauled L-134 "Go Devil" engine? Engine has been sitting about 8 years. I think we might get 'er fired up next weekend. Any particular lubricant I should be using for engine oil (dino vs. synthetic, for example).
Go to your copy of TM 9-8012 Operation and Organizational Maintenance and read pages 18 thru 20 very carefully. _________________ Wes K

I will give you a little slack. Use mineral oil for the breakin period. A straight weight appropriate for the ambient area temps. That chart is on page 54! _________________ Wes K

The break-in period uses straight mineral so actual break-in wear will take place. Once the 500 mile break-in period is complete then more modern oils that still retain adequate levels of the ZDDP additive are great for insuring good long term lubrication. Shell Rotunda is a great oil for normal use of the jeeps. _________________ Wes K
