and I noticed the present rear bumper is welded to the frame. I did some research, and didn't see if this was normal or not, but apparently the marine reinforcement was welded in place and then bolted. Anybody have any suggestions? _________________ 1952 M38A1

The original bumper is welded at the point of contact with the pintle plate on the chassis as far as I know. Then the USMC reinforcement frame member is slipped over the original. Then everything is bolted back up.
I checked my jeep with the USMC lifting hooks and it does not appear to be welded... if it is welded in place the hardware currently installed is covering the welding.
