Right, again not looking to take a historic MB/GPW and gut it but looking at a "modern" MB/GPW using the existing repro parts available - and alternatives.
yep monel brake lines are the answer but was trying to find some through mcmaster carr and was told it wasnt available in 3/16" anymore and they had no clue where to get it. i take a dim view on driving in salt water. but to each his own. it would certainly be a crime to do that to an original jeep due to the fact they are rapidly disappearing. as to the philippine jeeps they are made in several places and most "owner" jeeps are built with varying degrees of success here. but the concept is sound, a 2liter rice motor and gear box with a light truck or sedan rear axle. sorry no 4wd folks. however you can get to a lot places with a good posi traction axle that will stymie an open axle. actually a fiberglass tub with the above technology would be pretty fun BUT GLASS BODIES ARE NOT SIMPLE BOLT INS!!! as to mitsubishi diesel parts availability ive no idea about the u.s. they are plentiful and cheap here. if you had a low mile import though, you will find that they will outlast any flathead engine with reasonable care . paladin motors in georgia imports mitsubishi jeeps and parts including engines and trans. IM SURE ITS TOO HIGH FOR A LOW HOOD JEEP. mitsubishi jeeps use dana 27 and 44 axles with offset carriers. trans is mitsubishi and its a four speed coupled to a dana model 18 transfer case. frame rail center to center width is the as all early willys and ford jeeps with a straight ladder frame
