I'm working on the electrical and continually disconnecting the battery is getting pretty old. There is not really enough room to get one on the ground side of the battery compartment. Can one be, safely, put between the the two batteries?
Alternatively, I was thinking of adding a second ground cable to frame and putting it between that and the original ground.
I would prefer the battery compartment though for weather and convenience reasons...

My M38A1 has a "hidden" keyed electrical cut-off switch under the right front fender that is between the old ground and a new cable and ground point. Serves to safe the vehicle to prevent anyone from starting it and a convenient way to diconnect the electrical system for electrical work. _________________ 1951 M38
I wouldn't try and put one in your battery compartment. Since the bottom end of the ground battery cable connects to the voltage regulator tray the simple solution is to disconnect that end and connect it to a cut off switch bolted to the firewall below or outboard of the battery box. Then run a short new section of ground cable from the new cut off switch to the voltage regulator tray. From now on all you do is reach below the battery box to the firewall and turn the switch on or off.
