Would a PRC 47 be ok in an M38A1? I have a 52 and am considering making it a radio jeep and have an opportunity to get a NOS PRC 47 radio set. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

They were primarily man pack units. They were occasionally used in jeeps but that would have been 60/70's Vietnam era and would most likely have been in the M151 series jeeps. The M38A1's radio carrying heyday service period was 1953 thru the end of the 60's. I would imagine a few Guard and Reserve units still using the M38A1 in the 70's you may have found a few PRC-47's in them.

Took two healthy dudes to pack a '47, one for the radio and one for the batteries, etc.

A major internet auction place has the vehicular mount for the PRC-47 listed as I write this, the second one I have ever seen.

Best,
Brian
