1952 CDN FROM BOXES TO A JEEP

Hey everyone.
Been a member for about a year but never posted anything, but have read a bunch and learned a bunch.
I bought my jeep last Sept. from another member tracer. I never saw it but my father did and made the deal. My father trailered it to me from Ontario and I live in Alberta.
Just put the jeep in the garage with all the boxes of parts. I was a little scared to see how much apart it was already. I am a heavy duty mechanic and I rebuild engines for my job, but this really scared me.
Well I have been going out to the garage after my two boys are in bed for the last few weeks and rolled up my sleeves and I have it down to a bare frame.
I will start posting photo's once I figure out how to.
I have decided to take it one step at a time. Frame first then build up from there and not even start thinking about engine and tub.
For all the M38 CDN owners out there I was going through my boxes puting the parts on the shelves and I found the rear dif. convey light and dash switch. It looks good and I will try and figure out how it was wired once I find all the wiring (it was all pulled out when I got it.
I am really excited to build this Jeep, have always wanted a peice of Canadian history.

I would suggest you continue thinking about the engine & tub during the entire rebuild. Start with a restoration log book. Write down what you do each day and what you find wrong that needs to be addressed. You can even make up a discrepancy list as a stand alone part of the project resto log. Then while you concentrate on the frame you can keep your eyes open to parts and tools you may need down the road to fix the discrepancies on the other parts and since your needs won't be immediate it gives you time to shop for the bargains.

Hi Steve,

Rebuild a jeep, it's the same as eating an elephant. You must cut it into very thin slices and you eat it slowly. Looking forward to follow the story of rebuilding your M38CDN.

Look on top of the left front frame rail, near the bumper, for the CAR number. It's the Canadian Army Registration and should read something like
52-3xxxx.
