To my knowledge (limited) there are no frame numbers on M38A1's unless:

1. Canadian

2. NEKAF (Dutch)

3.?

However, I have heard that sometimes the motorpool inscribed the hood number on the left frame rail, up front near-ish the radiator support...do not know if its on top of rail or outboard side. I have not found one on my '54 yet...but I am just starting to uncover that area.

I am sure one of the Mods (Wes K) will be along shortly to add to or correct this info. Very Happy

Swampy,
Be sure and use the "search" button above and nor the "Search Articles" window on the left.

The first one will give you two options, whether one word or subject, or all.

I usually use the second option.

I put in M38A1 frame numbers and got a whole page plus of info.

Here are some of the stampings that are on my frame ('53 M38A1). I have never been able to get an answer as to what they mean either. If anybody can be any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Those numbers are on all the frames. They are part #s for each individual part. As for the NOAH not really sure.

If you do a search for a question most often then not you will find an answer. I did a quick search for "283L M38A1" on Google and found this thread from G503.

Andrew,
You will notice I am the one that explained the answer there 7 years ago! Wink
