Helping a friend choose the paint colour for his 1946 CJ3A. He wants the WW2 military khaki colour and I have been browsing our forums searching for articles on different colours on jeeps between WW2, Korea to Vietnam era.
Located the paint card under Wes site but no articles.

What description would you use to describe the yellow paint for USMC markings? I read somewhere they painted those markings with any kind of yellow they had lying around. It looks to me like "school bus" yellow. Please let me know if there is an official name of the yellow paint you all use because it will be 70 degrees tomorrow around here....perfect opportunity for this job. Thanks!!!

I believe the proper color is "Insignia Yellow". If you have a hobby shop (dealing in Plastic Models, Hobby Lobby also carried it) close by, Testor's Model Paints used to sell it in a small spray can (3 oz)... and it was a common color...
It was also the same color used for the Yellow in USAF markings in the 70s to 90s...
Hope this helps... _________________ Hal, KB1ZQ

Semi-gloss yellow FS 595 standard color # 23538 was used after WWII on Marine vehicles painted Marine Corps semi-gloss Forest Green and # 33538 for those painted with lusterless Forest Green. The Forest Green was a Navy Bureau of Yards and Docks color list #23. The Federal Standard 595 has a close resemblance to it in 14052 (Gloss), 24052 (Semi-Gloss) & 34052 (Lusterless).
During WWII and Korea the Marines rarely marked anything on their jeeps. If you found a registration number or division symbol you were lucky. If you want to dress up a CJ as a MB/GPW and want it to look real from WWII and want it to look Marine then just slap the yellow registration number on it and drive it. _________________ Wes K
