Should have been on my Christmas wish list.
Looking for a "decent" driver seat frame for an M38.
I have decided after many good intentions, and yet another long look
that repairing the disaster I have is beyond my ability.
Prefer something I can use without cutting and welding, minor surface rust is ok. I can sand, prime, and paint.
It would also be helpful if I can find one somewhere in Texas, maybe the Austin area?

What does yours look like, I'd hate to see one go to the scrap heap if it's repairable.

I've got a couple of pics somewhere. The seats had foam under
ripped vinyl. Coil springs under that sitting on plywood. The pan
is gone. Rust is inside the back tubes, has eaten the edges of the
back where it meets the frame. The horizontal left tube was cut
just in front of the back angle and badly repaired. The angle of
the back is incorrect. The back right foot was cut off then welded
back too short. The left front was cut and badly repaired in front
of the front angle. It angles outward in the wrong dimension.
The tube is bent and twisted, then cut and again badly repaired
at again the wrong angle.
I bought thin 1" tube and 1/2" pipe to cut and repair. I'm concerned
that with all of the bubblegum and wrong angles I may never
get it back square, and if I did, all of the internal rust would
eventually eat it up in the long run.

Yep got em to. Doesn't look horrible. If you had a tubing bender you could address that bent leg. That's beyond something I could do but someone should be able to. What I'm saying is don't chuck it to the curb at least.

Sorry about the photos. Had family in over the holidays and
they burned up my bandwidth. Now banished to slow connection
land for the duration. They would not load here but went right
through on email.
I won't trash the frame. I still harbor a small bit of energy
to tackle it, but it will require building/repairing everything
in the tub to make sure everything flanges up.
I thought of filling the tubing with sand, then heating and
bending, like we do with smaller stuff.
Dumb idea?
Btw, those propane torches won't get hot enough to do anything
with this.

Had to reduce em 50% to get em to load here..
Yep-good idea to have your tub work done in that area before attempting the seat frame repair. Be sure also to have your fuel tank in place-clearances there are critical and tight.

Man,
That doesn't even begin to describe what went on with this jeep, but it helps others with perspective!
Might add it has a CJ gas tank. Maybe he figured out he could lower the seat for belly room since he had a shorter tank. Makes perfect sense in that regard.
I suspect the reason it doesn't have a windshield is they broke it climbing in and out.
The wheelhouse on the right side has all of the spot welds on the front and top broken off. Completely disconnected from the tub. The only thing holding it together is the roll bar. Reminds me of a scene in the movie Signs.
The wheelhouses are both dented from impacts from the seats. The right is much worse than the left. The right side bracket has been gone. Only pieces on the left. The right side left back leg is also bent 180 degrees.
I don't know who these people were but my guess is they weren't tiny.
I am afraid to remove the roll bar in the back until I get the right wheelhouse straightened/repaired, and some spots tacked in there. The whole thing may just fall completely apart.
You don't want to know what the skid plate looks like, but the e-brake drum has a dent in it if that tells you anything.
