Does anyone know of a drop-in air filter element that I could use to replace the oil bath unit on an early model M38? I would want to use the existing housing and just remove the oil from the equation.

Thanks.

Bose,
Any particular reason why you would want to replace the factory
system with a paper filter? The oil bath system is a very good filter system if maintained properly.

See this treatise:

If you are determined to do so there are a couple of articles on the
CJ3A site as well as the G503 forum.

There may be here as well but most learned opinions here
favor sticking with the original.

It's not going to be a drop in and drive option. It has been done to just about every oil batch cleaner ever made at one time or another. The oil bath system is superior in all but one sense. You must clean it up and reservice it periodically depending on how much and where you drive. The lazy folks love the paper but then most of the lazy folks aren't after "Original" or best performance. Just less work!

Here's how it is done on a 42 Ford GPW: http://www.42fordgpw.com/mods2.html
