Wes,

Yes, I did see the diagram you provided in the link and it helped with orienting the rail. What I was asking in my original question was not only how did the military install the rails but also how others have attached this channel in the chance someone else did it in a way they felt was better than the self-tapping screws such as perhaps a few spot welds?

Having no experience with canvas doors I don't know if over time screws would loosen so I was trying to tap into the collective knowledge here of those who have run these doors for an extended period. It may just be that the canvas on my one original door has shrunk but it puts noticeable strain on the rail when I've done a temporary mock-up.

Based on feedback from another post I'll be ordering door skin sets from WeeBee and I'm confident those will be of proper proportions. Properly installed screws may last forever and no one may have ever had a problem but before I started poking holes in the frame I figured I'd ask those who have dealt with this before.

Regarding sub-drawing BB, am I correct they are showing not only the channel but also a small section of canvas inserted in it?

Thanks,
Wade

I'm sorry folks have got their noses out of joint or their feelings
hurt over this post.

No one here has more appreciation or respect for the folks that
set up, maintain and run this site.

To be fair, I use the search function before I do anything else
here, then move on to photo pages.

That being said, I have looked at the instructions for installing
the rails several times, as well as going over Wes' page 2
links for canvas tops. I have enlarged that WeeBee photo
many times as well as going back and forth between page 1
and 2.

I still do not see a photo on these two pages showing the door
canvas rail on an M38A1.

If I'm dense, or just blind and it's there I apologize in advance

I don't think I've been rude or condescending. If someone saw it
that way that certainly wasn't my intent. I just can't see a photo
following the link provided with the rail mounted.

Wow, this is sure beating a Dead Horse!

Wade, I clearly understood all of your questions/requests in your 1st post. What I said in my last post is I only answered one of your questions/requests. The link question/request. I had no intention of answering the other as I have never tried to fasten an M38A1 door channel any other way then the correct drawing way.

Brian, Some of us are blind only in one eye but we cannot see out of the other one. Wink

Wes,
Thank you for enlarging that drawing.

I have looked at it several times and have seen the rail
installation instructions there.

I still do not see a photo of an actual M38A1 with the rail installed.

But that's okay.

Thanks,
Brian

Wade, You are welcome.

Brian, I took a shot in the dark & googled "M38A1 Windshield"!

Notice not a single photo shows a welded on channel.

Since the self-tapping screws to mount the rail will carry the load in shear and not tension I can see there is little risk of them pulling out even with tight canvas.
