Wes,
Have never posted even though have been a member since 2012. (Yes I did the survey on my then newly acquired M38). After exchanging a few emails with you, it became apparent that a motor pool restoration would be appropriate in my case.
I began my restoration thinking that I would just post any questions I had and maybe someone would answer. Have since torn down entire jeep photographing each part as it came off, refurbishing it and setting it aside, making a list of what I would need to purchase or replace. (Guess where I got those ideas.)
I now have an almost running chassis back together and am working on electrical (restoring to 24v) and finishing bodywork on the tub. Was thinking today that once I finish the the those two things I will essentially just be reassembling a finished jeep.
I never had to post a question because every time I came up with one, and there were MANY, the information I needed was already here thanks to you and others. I have never been misled by anything I found here whether in forum posts, articles, or downloads.
This morning, a Korean War era vet was looking at my M38 and said "you are doing a good job making this look authentic."
My head started swelling and my ego became bloated. Then I remembered. I did not have a clue when I started this. After poking a pin in my head and ego, I told him about this site and how every time I took something apart, I checked here as to what it was and whether it was appropriate to put back and that it would have been impossible for me to do this restoration otherwise. I would have given up long before now. And I know that it will be finished some day(hopefully this year.) I will continue mining your considerable knowledge
It's about time I acknowledge to you how appreciative I am.
So, THANKS Wes and all you others who have posted pictures, posted articles and links, had discussions, asked questions and given answers here. _________________ JimD
Well said! I feel the same way. The benefit of this site, Wes, and others has been tremendous. _________________ Rebuilding a 1952 M38.
