Well I finally broke down the other week and ordered a new canvas top for my M38a1 after the top that came with the jeep when I bought it became so fragile that it was disintegrating just touching it. Judging by the construction and materials, it was no doubt an original 50's era top that the original owner had for it. Anyway, I was looking for a cheap top because I very rarely use the Jeep anytime that I really need the top. So I went with the Surplus City top for $325. It took about 10 days for it to arrive, and showed up this past Friday so I took the time to install it this weekend. Overall its a nice top and looks good, although the color is a little bit lighter of a green then the original which was a very dark green. The fit is decent, but a little baggy at the front along the top of the windshield, almost like it is just a tough too wide, but I hope that will tighten up with some shrinkage. The only real difference I noticed is that the center straps that go over the center bar only have one turnbuckle strap compared to the original that had two turnbuckles per strap. Overall I think it will be a good top and should last me for years to come.
