Question about origin

Hi guys
i have a new friend in the Swedish Jeep society with a 1953 M38A1. He bought his jeep in 1983 from a company saying it came from a Belgian NATO Supply and claming it have done service in the Netherlands.

The Jeep ID is MD12845. Is this a NEKAF made jeep?

Hello Jan-Olof,
Does he have a serial number plate?

Does he know the year of his vehicle?

The serial you posted is in a range of 1955 and 1956
Nekaf jeeps per the 3-2003 database.

MD12845 is a June 1952 US Built jeep.

NEKAF's start with MD 57144-100001 1956 thru MD 57144-12950 1962.

Hi Wes,
The 3-2003 database here shows a bunch of Nekaf A1’s without the prefix numbers.

Is that database not reliable?

Perhaps Jan-Olof’s friend left off the prefix.

They just neglected to include the 5 digit prefix. Many owners submit their data based only on the dash serial plate with no consideration for the patent plate!

Thanks for the information. The ID MD12845 is the figures stated in the Swedish car register as the only figures, I don’t know if he left out the prefix.
His dash plate is in Dutch language, and he says manufactured year is 1956 ( not the year I said earlier.
Wes you say June 1952, could it be a fact that the early Dutch deliveries were US made, before NEKAF starter?

Brian changed his original post so his data matched the data I offered later. Brian is the one who told you June 52.

Brian the 3-2003 listing is not unreliable. One only needs to fill in the blanks left by the owners. Experience with this list will improve one's interpretation of the data.

Thanks for the clarification on the 3-2003 database.

For what it’s worth, I have not made any edits to my posts on this thread.
I do not know where 1952 comes from in relation to my posts.

The only reference to 1952 I see here was your original reply regarding
non-Nekaf A1’s.

I misconstrued Brinken's entry to mean someone said his posted jeep was a 1952 unit. As above I said that 5 digit serial was not a NEKAF jeep. It was a US built jeep.

No, a US Built M38A1 transferred to the Dutch Army would not be a NEKAF unit. It would have a standard M38A1 dash data plate set.

I have now talked to my friend and he says he doesn't have the dash plate in place, there are just many small holes left

But he found the data plate behind the passanger seat and it says 57144-MD12845. If I now manage to upload the photo it can tell that we also have the "MD" stamped up in the right corner, as on Wes pic.

My conclusion would now be: The jeep is US manufactured in June 1952 and delivered to Dutch army before NEKAF started their production.

This full serial # " 57144-12845 " was not used in 1952. Your jeep is a 1956 NEKAF jeep with the # 57144-12845.

Thanks Wes, the confusion is settled, it is a NEKAF.
