Do you what your FA unit to be assigned to a Division, Corp, or Army. They can't stand alone.

No clue, that is why I need help. One of the Jeeps has morphed towards one belonging to an Artilleray Unit.

Its radios are all in the 1950s Artillery frequencies. It is heavily armed (.50 Cal) so maybe something appropriate for a forward spotter or the equivalent.

Thoughts?

It's a ton of information to research through, but I'm guessing these sites might be helpful to your question.

Search button in the top right corner --- "artillery", or narrow it down as suggested above by picking an Infantry Division (number), search for example "3rd Infantry Division Artillery" and it will lead to the various artillery regiments assigned to that division in different times. Searching "Korea Artillery" also yields a lot of hits for your time frame.

I've also found this site useful and interesting for the Army during 1950-53. I recognize that probably north of 90% of the jeeps in Korea at the time were re-built MB's, but the site has useful unit relationship information, as well as gut-wrenching personal experiences.

Good luck!

Just acquired a worn, stained and weathered book (yearbook?) on Combat Command B of the 5th Armored Division in 1951. The 5th was a training division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas at that time. There were four artillery units in the division: Companies A, B, C and D, 542nd Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Armored Division.

These were real units that actually existed.

Thank you. Yes real units would be the goal. Now I have to study the down loads for how that is formatted for the bumper and bumperettes.

Regrettably, no photos of Jeeps in the yearbook.
Good luck.

Unit markings always read left to right starting with the highest unit command.

1. The Major Command it is assigned to
2. The Intermediate Command it is assigned to
3. The Unit or Activity it is assigned to
4. The vehicle number for convoy purposes, aka: Order of March

So in the unit Boze mentioned it would be;
5(armor symbol) 542FA (star in the center of bumper) A-(vehicle number)

Checking my copy of “5th armored Division Camp Chaffee Ark. ‘51 I found no Jeeps, but several pages in is a halftrack named “Copenhagen” with bumper inscription 5 (armor sign) 461. On the Special Staff Page is a photo of my late father, Maj. James C. Starbird, Chemical Officer. He ran the gas chamber, and once showed me the effects of tear gas. Thanks a lot, Dad! That’s why I never joined a riot in college!!

I WILL keep you in mind. I have several vehicles that are nearing the marking phase.
