M38 Body to Frame Attach Points

Post by SteveC »

Trying get this M38/CJ3A finished. The body and frame are both From the M38. The very front of the body floor brace that protrudes in from of the firewall has a hole and spacer welded in the end of it but the frame does not a hole in it at that location. What am I missing here? The frame does have a nut welded in the correct spot for the side brace that comes off the toe board brace and they line up correctly. Just can’t figure out why there is no hole in the frame for the front body floor brace. Thanks for any help.

I can't explain the why, but I can confirm what you are seeing. There is a hole in the tub and a spacer, but no corresponding bolt hole in the frame.
I believe you are referring to the braces at about the 8 and 9 o'clock positions in this overview picture

Which is this hole close-up.

Never was. Only one bolt and it goes in the side bracket below the toeboard gusset. Willys must have assumed the rubber pad setting on top of the frame rail without a bolt thru it would remain still in that position as long as the bracket was fastened thru the side of the frame rail. I suspect that Willys engineers wanted a wee bit of flexibility at that point.
