1963 data plate serial number

Post by aslanperro »

When I got my 1963 M38A1, its data plates were all missing. It has Kaiser patent plate behind passenger seat. The serial is "7105 93230".

When I am ready to do a new data plate, should I put all 9 digits or just the last 5 digits? With all 9 digits, the available space on data plate may not even fit. As I understood 7105 indicates open body M38A1. By the way, it is titled with just 93230 on paper.

Thanks.

The Kaiser civilian patent plate on the front of the right wheel house lists the entire number per the laws in effect at the time. The military data plate continued to use the last 5 digits thru out the 60's.

Had you perused my photo albums you would have found a sub-album "M38A1 Survey Guide" and in that album these examples:

Your 93230 is an October 1963 unit built for the Marine Corp. The dash plate you use should be the one shown in the top right of the photo.

Wes, I came across the green patent plate photo in your albums. But I missed the other one. That exactly answers my question how it was done in the past. I found a repro plate with Marine Corp responsible agency. But I doubt I will find repro plate with correct contract number.

Thank you.

Contact Robert at dataplates4u.com he may have the plates you need. He will even stamp the numbers and inspector stamp just like the originals.
