Dave, here is the correct engine mount plate. I Just want to make sure you have the correct one now. This came off an M38.

Finally pulled the timing cover and timing gear off. Now I have to pull the oil pan and scrape off the gasket. What a pain. Oh well, you live and learn.

I hate moving backwards. Here's a shot of my engine minus the front plate and timing gear.

I pulled the engine so I wouldn't have to crawl under the Jeep to remove the oil pan and scrape the gasket remnants off. Here's a couple of good shots of the master cylinder area. It shows a good mix of original and reproduction parts. The brake lines and horn wiring are reproductions from MWM. The master cylinder heat shield is a CJ2A reproduction from the CJ2A page. The master cylinder is an original Wagner and the brake light switch is NOS. The master cylinder is probably not military surplus but it's made in the USA, maybe a CJ replacement part.

I feel your pain Dave. I'm seeing some leaks now and I hope I don't have to pull the trans. At least the parts are clean and organized so you don't have to go through that step.

Back on track with a fresh coat of paint on my engine. Now I just need to wipe off the dust and start moving forward again.

Hello Dave,
Saw your post on the G about speedo's. The AC 1580260 would be correct thru MC65042. The SW 503A was introduced from MC65043 and on plus early M38A1 where clusters were built for Willys by both AC and SW. The SW503C came on later M38A1's and as a later field service replacement.

Thanks Wes. That's good information. That tells me that the AC is correct for my M38 and the Warner is correct for the M38A1 that I will be building.

The SW 503A goes in A1's thru MD70114. SW 503C goes in MD70115 & on and all M170's.
