I have done this and it is not that difficult. I purchased a NOS M715 harness that turned out to be an M35 deuce harness. The kicker is that I have a SBC engine in the truck and I wanted the stock wiring. No big deal really.

The wiring loom for the big truck ran a different route so I had to take the tape off and reorganize the wires so the ran in the correct location. Driver's side front vs exiting through the center of the dash. The some wires are too long and other circuits to short. My solution was to purchase a cheep wiring loom from an Ebay vendor who didn't know what application the loom was for. So for $19.99 I picked up a new harness with endless connections. I cut and spliced them into the loom using high quality butt crimp connectors that heat seal and then applied liquid electrical tape and finally wrapped the loom again in regular electrical tape.

I purchased the special crimping tool but it just locked onto the Packard connector and would not release. The tool looks like the Astro shown above. I must have had the solder type ends.

Not a super difficult project but takes time and thought to get it correct.

The astro crimper came with 4 different size positioners. One for each wire gauge. Some guys buy these crimpers used and do not realize they have a tool that originally came with 4 gauge sensitive positioners and they try using using the only one they have with the wrong gauge wire.

Is there a source for the aluminum wire numbers that are like the original?

These are probably as close to original as you will get. Plus they are brand new.
