Ok I finally have time to get back to this for a few days. The mounts that I have on my frame must have been moved at some point because the splash plate I just got doesnt come close to lining up with the bracket holes.

Ok.Thanks Wes. Looks like there are two different types of mounts. I have the brackets for the regulator that has threaded holes on the underside and my regulator has the mounting holes in flanges on the side. I havent found anyplace that has those brackets.

There are a few different mounts but the M38 had one only and the M38A1 had one only. Your mount has welds that are not factory. So someone has toyed with your mount for some odd reason we will never know. Did you visit my photo album and review all the regulator mount photos?

Thanks Wes. I have two different regulators. A 4004UT and a 4002UT. The pics on page 1 of this thread show both units and both mounting brackets. One is for the 38 and one is for the 38A1. The Prestolite regulator 4004UT I had been using (shown without its cover) was overcharging the batteries so I got a new 4002UT which has different brackets. I need the dimensions of the two rectangular metal strips that attach to the splash shield (as shown in Wes' pic above) and I will make them out of flat stock steel.

This is the M38's proper arrangement:

The two brackets you need are the the two in the photo with the rubber shock mounts and two short braided ground straps. The part number for these two brackets is ORD# 7374823, Willys# 118757, Auto-lite # VBC43, FSN 2920-737-4823. The 4 shock mounts are also available on the market 7374922. The 4 short ground straps are not out there. You can buy the strap bulk, cut to length, solder copper plates on each end and drill for proper stud size.

Here's the VBC4002UT installation shown in the 1951 ORD 9 SNL G-740 M38 parts manual.

Army Jeep Parts has the short ground straps for the 4 rubber mounts. A bit pricey if you need 4 of them................
