Would different (not matched) gear ratios inside the front and rear pumpkins cause axles to break?

Mixed diff ratio's will normally result in transfer case damage.

Good luck with the floor pans. They are a very common rust issue. The hat channel reinforcements underneath had white oak installed at the factory to help strengthen the assembly. Water would get in over time, soak the wood, which would rot and retain moisture, eventually rusting out the floor panels from below.
It’s common to find the floors rusted in patterns reflecting the hat channels below.
