A company called Pitstop. 13.00 for two studs, 15 for shipping. And that was the minimum.

I had the special washers I'm my hand the other day and set them on the head to take the manifold off. 1 disappeared. I looked everywhere, with a magnet, on my knees under the jeep trying to find it. Gave up, and today I spotted it.



I put drive shafts in, and finalized the parking brake.

Wondering about your parking brake cable being too long?
If it's the correct length M38 cable I wonder if you routed and clamped it in the right spots?
If I recall, it takes 3 clamps, one under the dash on the cane bracket, one on the driver fender, and another on the cross-member.
The one under the dash and on the cross-member are a special mated pair that have tabs to hold and lock down each end of the outer jacket in the right place for length.
And there's also a funny looking twisted bracket holding the jacket on one of the bottom bell-housing bolts.

Maybe they're in your leftover nuts and bolts jar?

I think the cable could easily appear to be too long if not routed and clamped in the right spots. Or maybe it's not a stock M38 cable.

If you have a copy, page 112 of the M38 Reference Guide gives the cable length as 61-1/2 inches and good photos of the clamps and bracket.

Although not obvious in this illustration the cable passes above and very close to the steering box. Fig 12 & 56 in TM 9-804 is very clear on this.

I made a "short" about the acorns coming down on me.. I'll link it at the end.

I was sent a wrong cable originally - this is one you see in video. The thread section is like 2 inches longer than the cable I just bought from Midwest military. (Which came in yesterday afternoon)

I do have those special clips installed and I added a keeper to the fender. I don't have a twisted hook that I've seen in other posts.

I also had to trim the hook and bend a new loop in it about 2 inches shorter. Otherwise even with the correct cable, it wouldn't fit.
The replacement cable has a different jacket- spiral wound wire around that sheeth.



Until I'd get my exhaust/intake manifold back, I'm sort of at a standstill. I hope to get it back today. I go back to work on Monday.

Disappointed to hear that your new cable from MWM doesn't fit.
Can you show us a tight photo of where you have the end of the jacket clamped to the cross-member?

I mistyped. The one I had was wrong -picture in box

The Midwest military one had right length but I still had to clip the hook to make this all work.

I'll climb back under and get better photo. I just didn't want to kneel down in the mud when I had to go drop my 15yo dog off at the vet this morning.

I'll have to go look at my hook (manual calls it a "link").
If I recall I also had to shorten it a couple three inches.
I also formed one end of it into a loop to make it captive.
I read posts where they're known to mysteriously disappear.

Diesel is getting a Cushings Disease test. Definitely not one way trip. He's got a lot of youth in him still. He has a liver issue we give meds for, but he started showing signs of Cushing, so we are checking. I should go pick him up in a few hours. He was so upset he wasn't allowed to eat this morning.

Glad to hear that he'll be home soon!

Is that the correct clamp? It looks rubber coated and wider than I'd expect.
Maybe it's just fresh paint or the photo.

It looks like you have the clamp in the right hole on the cross-member (bracket).
There's 2 holes close together, one hole for the bolt and the other for the tab on the clamp that keeps it oriented correctly.

The narrowest barrel on the end fitting on the jacket, on the very end, is what fits into the clamp.
The bolt passes through the narrow middle slot.

You might have to spread it slightly to get it to fit before bolting it in. I can't locate a good photo, and mine isn't mounted that far at the moment so I can't take one.

The similar clamp on the other end of the jacket fits much the same way.
