Furley's '51 M38

Post by Furley11 »

I finally found one. I have been browsing for years for an old military jeep. I wanted something I could work on, but I didn't want a frame off project (at first, anyway). Every time I found one in the condition I wanted at a reasonable price, it was way too far away to consider buying. Finally, after a few bourbons and during a regular browse on eBay, I found it.
It is a 1951 M38, and it has been used on a few south Texas ranches since being purchased from the military. It is in pretty good condition for not having been restored. It has some modern mods to it (well crafted roll bars for example), most of which I will revert back to original. I look forward to the advice and guidance of this forum.

Furley, Most of our members list at least their state in the location box of their profile so it always shows up in the left margin of you post just like mine and Brian's. It also helps to add your make/model jeep to your signature element along with a real name instead of the CB radio type handles we use for logging in.

I added location. My "handle" is more than just a handle. Its what my Momma calls me, along with my wife  .

I will get some photos posted when I can get to a laptop. I wasn't able to do it on my iPad.
Question for the board, where might I get just the bottom cup of the air cleaner assembly? I can't find anyone selling one. I would like to restore the original one I have.a

Hi Furley,
I'm in Llano!

Is the bottom just rotted? I've seen people replace the bad sheet metal
if the sides are good.

Take care,

It's completely missing, unfortunately.

This might be for an earlier unit but it might fit:

Maybe pop the seller a note for some dimensions...

Yeah, I found that one, but for that shipping price, I would be better off buying a whole new one.

An M38 oil bath is much more than that, even a repop!

I thought I remember somebody selling parts. I'll keep looking.

Take care,
