Hello all. M3A1 here - another new member checking in.

We just added to our stable what I am guessing is a late 50's-early 51 M38 to our (MC11312) which is to be my son's first truck and presently, it needs one of everything. Fortunately for my son, I have been down this path many times so the "REALITY" light is shining brightly. The hardest part will be not doing too much for him.

Our M38 came to us as a rather tired old Jeep that has seen many many makeovers over the years. It's last iteration is somewhat of a "Surf's Up - Beach Blanket Bingo" theme.

I prefer my trucks in their military livery but my son chose this one, which is to say that he intends to have some fun with it and at this stage of the truck's life that is A-OK.

So, we'll be going through it mechanically and not worry too much about its looks for now because to do so would be like putting lipstick on a pig....prettier, but still a pig!

Photobucket recently reneged on its original agreement to perform as a free third party hosting site and I don't do the usual social media thing. Would anyone care to steer me toward a provider for third party hosting?

Cheers,
m3a1

You can try Imgur.com for hosting photos. I just started using them so do not have a lot of history yet, but so far it seems easy enough.

Ken, Wes, thanks for the input. It's been a long day, working on this thing outdoors in the Texas heat. Packed it in when I snapped off a bolt holding the thermostat housing. It's quitting time anyway.

Sentiments for my son's first truck

Assessing the condition of the rear axle

A 2-1/8" ball hitch? REALLY!?!

Stripping away the heavy metal. Two Blitz pans came with the truck. I'm sure you can guess why.
