I am restoring a 1954 M-38A1, I have both fenders although the passenger side is in need of lots of flat steel replacement I am attempting it. After replacing the floating weld nuts on both fenders I noticed that the driver's side does not have the hat channel bracing going all the way down so as to connect to the frame. It is cleanly cut just above the fender steel. So I am looking for information and possible parts (Same posting is on WANTED Board) is there supposed to be a channel that connects to the frame at this point. If someone has a bad driver's fender and willing to part it out I would be grateful. Let me know what you have.

Thanks Wes, I have the late fenders and per your post there is NO extended bracing on the driver's side... That answers my question...

I wanted to be sure before I call the fender good prior to sand blasting it down the road...

Originally only the early diagonal fenders had the extra length channels on both sides that bolted to the frame. Originally the late flat patch fenders had NO channel extension on either side! Over the years supersedures and aftermarket repops have dirtied the playing field and mix and match is common place. Early without the long channels and late with the long channels are a common site.

I would just play whichever fender I get unless I was heart bent on entering my A1 in shows as a top scoring factory original jeep for judging.
