I’m pretty new at M38 feature identification but I’m looking at one that seems to not have grill hinges. How can I tell if it’s the real McCoy or not?

Lack of grill hinges is generally indicative of the use of a CJ frame. Post a photo of the front frame rails that includes the bumper and the base of the grill.

This is a real M38 Frame:

Thanks for the quick comeback. It’s appreciated.
The subject vehicle is still someone else’s property but is being considered. There are a couple red flags that need to be addressed. The grill hinge issue is one of them. Posting pictures on here is still one of the mysteries that has to be figured out and mastered. I’m not there yet.

If you haven't done so, You need to ask Wes to set yo up with a photo album here on this site. Then you upload photos to it from your computer and then link your photo(s) from your album to the post you are writing.

Look at the shock mounts, M38 is threaded for a 7/16"-20 lock nut, civilian has a hole for a 3/32"-1" cotter pin. EDIT: Thanks, Wes, fixed it!

The CJ shock mount cotter pin is actually 3/32" x 1".
