Hi. I have a couple of small areas to patch on my M38. I understand that the panels were all 18g and also that 16g is easier to work with but I can’t find what spec the steel should be. Any suggestions? If it’s in a manual somewhere I apologize, I must have missed it...

Just plain low carbon cold rolled sheet steel, SAE 1018 or 1020; I use 16 gauge. Get it at Lowes, Home depot, etc, in 2x2 sheets.
Not in any TM.

The smart thing to do is measure the panel/skin you intend to replace and determine it's exact gauge. Yes 16 and 18 are very common gauges for the tub but there are others used as well.
