Well I took my tank in for cleaning (dip/boil) and to be lined professionally... This is for an M-38A1...

I have cut all the pieces of anti Squeak called for in the SNL out of 1/16" Neoprene rubber. Now I need to find where the pieces go. I remember seeing a photo or drawing somewhere, showing where these are to go, I just cannot remember where.

I have used the search function and looked Wes' photo album over and just cannot seem to find it.

If someone has the locations please let me know. Ready to drop tank in place in about a week or so...

It doesn’t show the orientation of the bottom strips however.

I think the M38 strips are 1/8” thick. The Ord description for the A1 doesn’t show a thickness.

That is the same as the SNL drawing...

It does not show orientation and that is what I am looking for; Items X, V and U are 2 Pieces each per the SNL...

Making progress as I spent lots of time over the last few years, sandblasting, priming and painting lots of parts. Once I got the tub and fenders repaired and painted it is just a matter of putting parts on. Besides I have lots of time now that I am RETIRED and the Covid thing...

All I have left is Electrical and Fuel then I can see if I can start it up and go from there...

Corrected to single hold down strap.

Thanks Wes, that is what I was looking for... Just could not find it...

I assumed the single strap on the center floor area was in line with the top inboard hold down strap.

Only thing I see wrong is that the M-38A1 only has one tie down strap...

I double checked the SNL on that one...

Looking at Wes' photo, I am going to suggest some changes. I am not saying I am correct just that these seem logical to me.

The 2 - 3 1/2" strips seem correct

The 2 - 18 11/16" Strips fit on the raised portions of the well. There are 2 of them, Wes' photo shows 12" in that location.

The 2 - 12" Strips go 90 degrees from the 18" Strips across the floor and over the edge into the well, Mirror imaging the 2 - 3 1/2" strips.

The single 23 7/16" strip goes on the underside of the hold down strap as it covers the entire horizontal surface and hangs over, to cover some of the vertical surface, both front and back.

I am not saying this is 100% correct, just that looking at the pieces this makes sense and covers all the directions the tank can possibly move, thus eliminating the possibility of squeak.

Well, My Bad. I mixed the 2 straps listed for M170 up with the A1 drawing. You pretty much nailed it Ron. I didn't have an M38A1 handy for measurements. Sold my last one 20 years ago. Illustration updated above.

One more observation, one of those 12" strips may belong horizontally on the right side well angled wall.

Since I've been looped into this, I also thought that one of the placement considerations was to position them so they don't trap water, or at least enable water to drain with little interference?

I went with the two 12" strips going the same as the 3 1/2 strips as this keeps the tank off the seam on the right towards the hump. I figured a little protection was worth the effort...
