Starter Rebuild

I have a late model starter MCZ4001UT for my A1. I just realized that TM9-1825B from 1952 doesn't cover it by part number. I need manual TM9-2920-215-35. Anyone have a PDF copy they'd like to share?

If you read my old post on this topic it has been un-obtainium for many years. I just ordered one in paper print from Portrayal Press so I'll have it on the web site soon.

Must be buried in an old post. I searched the site and used keywords such as starter rebuild and the actual manual number. Nothing came up in my search. Did you get your paper copy yet? Are the photos clear or are they dark like most reprints?

I ordered a copy after looking through their website. Never dealt with them before but their copies look good

Well I finally received my manual and now the hunt begins for parts. I seen most vendors offer rebuilds so I assume the parts are out there to rebuild starters.

I was expecting to see an illustrated parts breakdown in the manual. I had to do a little research and discovered it was actually in the 9-2320-208-34P on pages 68 & 69.

Looks like the hardest part to find is going to be the clutch assy.

Well I finished my starter rebuild and it was a success. I picked up this starter along with a solid state regulator. The starter was frozen and when I disassembled it was totally rusted. I walnut shell blasted everything and made sure I covered the brushes, coil assembly and armature. Since walnut shells don't removed corrosion I moved over the the glass bead blaster and carefully spot shot the corroded areas. After cleaning everything I used the manual and measured out the brushes and checked the armature. Surprising the brushes were barely worn and the armature checked out. I gave the electrical areas a good coating of electrical varnish to seal and painted everything else. I reassemble and reinstalled in the jeep. Hit the starter button and the starter came to life. I was able to crank the engine over but it wouldn't start. I'm working that issue in another post.
The hardest part of the entire rebuild is installing the end plate that has the brushes attached. The springs that apply pressure to the brushes so they make contact with the armature end makes it difficult to hold the brushes back so you can install the end plate.
