Does anyone know of a vendor selling rebuild kits or parts for this starter?
My local automotive electrical shop has rebuilt it once but now can’t find parts.
Thanks

Hello Bill, I moved your post here because it is a wanted post and not a post commenting on the quality of vendor services and parts.
I have found it better to use the part numbers and stock numbers from the parts manuals and google for their availability. The M38 had an early 124 tooth flywheel starter and a later 129 tooth flywheel starter. The later M38 is the only Autolite starter used by the M38A1.

No real kits that I've seen but you can email or call these gentlemen below:
John Bizal from
www.MidwestMilitary.com
Peter Debella at
https://www.debellajeepparts.com/
Not all of there stuff is listed on their websites so its good to call or email them and use the part numbers in the manual.
Good Luck!

Thanks to all!!
Talked to Debella: he may have the parts, needs a list. Took Wes diagram and the starter back to the shop that couldn’t find the parts, they will circle needed parts and I’ll find them with at Debellas or on the web.
Thanks again.

Thanks to all.
Here’s the happy ending.
The shop I take my car electrical problems to said he took it apart but couldn’t figure out what was needing to be replaced and thought he my have to circle a lot of the items on the diagram Wes had posted above. He looked over it closely and discovered a wire loose, put it back together, tested it and it’s fine!
Then he said “ no charge “. I know he spent asome time on it but wouldn’t take any money. Did take a dozen doughnuts

.
It’s refreshing to find honest people!
He could have said he rebuilt it and I would be none the wiser. I’m happy on many level.

You definitely want to be buddies with that guy.
They are few and far between.
