Hello,
What are the original or correct four bolts that hold the slave cable bracket to the fender. Is it an indented or just a flat no markings bolt? Picture would be fantastic. I tried searching in the photo albums, could not find anything, or I missed it.

I believe they're slotted round head 12-24x5/8 screws.
See them listed in the September 1955 ORD9 on page 166 under Bracket, mounting, battery receptacle (G758-8331378, WO-674791).
Also listed in the M38 Reference Guide.

The same screw is listed on page 177 under Receptacle, slave, with cable --- but I believe these are used to fasten the connector to the bracket.

The full description says they have an integral lock washer but doesn't say what type. Probably not split, but rather internal or external tooth lock washer (my guess).

The M38 ORD 9 calls out 4 ea of the same bolts for the receptacle itself on page 177 as well. So all 8 bolts are the same.

You might also note a small error in the ORD9.

The four 12-24 screws listed on page 166 that fasten the bracket to the fender also list 12-24 nuts --- but only 3.
I penciled 4 in the margin.

The bracket on my M38 is (was) tapped for 10-32 screws --- easy enough to fix with a #16 bit and a 12-24 tap.

I don't know if my bracket is just a faulty re-pop or possibly the same bracket is used on a more modern truck?
I thought I read somewhere that this bracket is unique to the M38 only.

Making the bracket for 10-32 screws isn't quite as odd as one with 12-24 screws.
I think 12-24 screws were a lot more common back in the 1950's than they are today.

I'd be curious to know if anybody out there has an original bracket tapped for 12-24 screws.
I suppose it's possible that a bracket tapped for 10-32 screws is correct from the factory and the ORD9 incorrectly listed them as 12-24.
