Just curious:

Where do you put your license plate on your vehicle?

Mounted it on the Jerry can bracket. Regular license plate screws have thin enough heads to allow the Jerry can to slip into place without problem.

Canadian M38's had a bracket mounted on the left rear of the tub.

Just curious, why do I not see that many Antique and Classic Car license tags?

I think the larger percentage of the jeeps are drivers not trailer queens. Most states limit the amount of driving you can do on those special antique plates.

I just add plate mounting brackets to existing hardware on each end of the jeep. IE front bumper mount bolts and spare tire lugs.

I went to Ace and got a 1"X1" strip of L angle aluminum,cut it to length and mounted it to the bottom of the gerry can holder.My holder had holes already on the bottom so the only drilling was into the aluminum strip.I used large slot head bolts and wing nuts in case I ever want to take it off at a show.Clark.

These are some great ideas. I am not to the point of mounting a license plate just yet, but when I get there I have a few ideas.

I wish I had a photo, but I made a bracket that goes behind the two top lug nuts on the spare tire carrier. This lets me mount my Vintage Vehicle plate in the center of the spare tire. At shows and stuff, I made a little canvas cover to slip over the tag to hide it.

Alfred - looks like you need to clean up around your place, for a small fee, I'll come haul that old junker 1 1/2 ton away for you!

Our state (FLA) just past a law that we don't have to display the tag, but it has to be IN the Jeep and ready if you're pulled over and they ask for it.

But if I were to display it, I'm going to do like the Auto Dealer's and mount the tag on a very strong magnet covered in duck tape to keep it from scratching the paint, and place it on the Gerry Can. Then I can take if off and on as I please.

Ryan, You could tag your Jeep as "Prior military" in Texas and not put a tag on at all, you'd use you're hood number as your tag... Just a thought.

I made two frames of half inch angle iron. On each frame I welded four washers that I had ground down on one side to where it was almost flat. The flat side was welded to the inside of the frame where the holes line up from the license plate.

The front frame has a bracket that is welded in the center and is twised at the bottom. This bracket is bolted to the bumper horn frame section where the front nut for the winch would normally attach.

The rear frame has another bracket that has a hole drilled in it that attaches over the top most stud on the spare tire holder. I then obtained a spare tire lock from MV Spares to really keep it there.

I don't have piuctures of these frames but hope the descriptions help.

Well many thanks Jeff and the picture of the mount bracket for your M38CDN. Ive had what I thought was a cheap universal aftrermarket licence plate holder or one that was scavenged from anoither vehicle that had been attached to my spare attached to one of the lugs with a washer. The only reason I kept it was that I did not have anything to replace it with. Had I not seen your picture I would have ditched an original part for my jeep. I checked it out and found the filled holes on my tub and the bracket ones line up exactly.

Hi Ryan, you have gotten a lot of good ideas. I pondered this question for a long time and then a couple of days ago, I got this idea and went for it:

I took a 1x1 inch piece of scrap angle iron a little less in length than the license plate, bore 2 holes in each side; bolted one flat side underneath the gas can bracket facing outward using existing holes in the bracket and then bolted the plate to the flat angle facing outward---want to take off to be original---just remove two bolts and no extra holes. Also did the same thing on my M100 except that I attached it to the underside of the cross member. Semper Fi Ben
