O.K. I give up. I keep reading that you should use Silcone spray on moving parts in the starter. I'm getting ready to put my starter in and I want to luber up proper. I bought a can of Silcone spray but I'm wondering why Silicone? Do I just spray some on the shaft the gear rides on? What other parts on the Jeep need Silicone that I don't know about?
Thanks.

Silicon spray dries and oil does not. The reason starter drives are not oiled is because the oil attracts dirt and the two together manage to make the bendix drives stick.
Silicon is acceptable because it will dry and not provide a place for dirt to adhere.
You can use silicon anywhere two items rub each other

Silicon won't hurt the ring gear but it is really not necessary and will wear off quickly.
