Rear Brake Line Tee

How is the rear brake line TEE supported. Is it supposed to anchor with a diff. cover bolt. My tee has about 1/4 in. hole drilled for anchoring but won't accept a 5/16 in bolt. Maybe I have the wrong tee or just need to drill for 5/16 bolt.
Oh, one other thing, the clamps or rings which is called for in the parts manual to seccure the brake line to the axle housing, Is this a special clamp? And I don't understand what the manual means when it describes it as a "ring".

They are special and their sizes vary. They are not perfectly round because they have a small bump to accomadate the brake line tube.
The "T" bolts to a bracket and the bracket bolts to two of the diff cover bolts.

Ok Wes, I see, thanks. I don't recall if that part was on there or not when I started the restore. I'll have to look in my box of parts.
Are those type of clamp or ring availabe? Or is it something I would be able to make from a piece of sheet metal.

Ken,
There were three different clamps/rings used. The WWII double flat banded screw type (WO A1515 ORD 7371002) and Standard (H006-0502923 ORD 502923) screw type that used a small piece of rubber around the tube where it was under the clamp and was used up thru MC34528. After that serial they went to the snap on type ring (WO 804201 or UC 98382 or ORD 7418146) with a bump in it for the tube.
The bracket for the "T" is Spicer 18602 or WO 802509 or ORD 8677054.

Thank you for the photos, I thought I had seen that bracket some where. I found the bracket with some other painted parts.
Just one more question, is there a screw holding that late style ring onto the axle housing?

Ken,
That late style ring is a little over half the circumference of the axle tube and so there is no screw to hold it in place.

Thanks Ryan, that looks like spring loaded metal. (that's my terminology) So the late style, is that what is used on the M38 restoration? Is it available?, and from where?

Ken,
There may have been some very late M38's with this clip, but as far as I have been able to tell so far, most came out with the earlier style that has a slotted round head screw to tighten the clip.

My research shows the switch from the screw type clamps to the WO 804201 ring at MC34529 which is September 1951. That's about the middle of production. The WO 804201 ring was also used on the M38A1

Wes,
Do we know for sure that the second retaining clamp listed in the ORD 9 is the other type or just a change in maximum diameter of the clamp?
The ORD 9 only lists a diameter change.
You are probably correct, but I just wanted to clarify.
Nevermind, after reviewing your post, I see that the same numbered clamp was also used on the M38A1 and we know that one to be the second type.

The pictured spring clip type clamp WO 804201 used on MC34529 and after and all M38A1's is the third part numbered clamp used by the M38. The WWII G503 screw style clamp WO A1515 was first and then the screw type clamp H006-0502923 ORD 502923 was the second part number used.
I am however not convinced that the H006-0502923 ORD 502923 clamp was ever installed by Willys but that it was instead a service replacement.
So if I wanted an accurate factory resto at this time I would use the G503 style WO A1515 clamp thru MC34529 and the late ring/spring clip style WO 804201 after MC24529.

I have MC36290. Guess I'll make some phone calls to find the WO 804201 clamps.

I would bet John at Midwest Mil has them.

Thanks, I didn't get around calling today, was trying to bend and flare the lines.
I have come up with another question, and that is about the brake lline that goes from the master cylinder to the front bracket where the flexable hose connects to.
Here is the question... Does this line the (steel one) travel on the outside of the frame rail all the way from the Master Cylinder to the bracket?

Ken,
Yes, and it is held onto the frame with these:
