I'd like to announce that the SDFFC is holding a meet the 14th and 15th of June for old Jeeps. Trail rides and sight seeing off road and on. All types of fun. Free camping at my place. Non Alcohol gas and Motels 2 miles away. It's Fathers Day weekend. Tell your family that is what you want for fathers Day!

We'll have Jeeps from MB's clear up through CJ5's here. The goal is to have fun, meet new friends, talk Jeep, and tour the beautiful Black Hills. The location is 12072 Crook City Road, Whitewood, SD, 57793. PM me with any questions. Hope you can come! John ( bring your own jeep BYOJ )

I'd love to get up there for this but I have no idea how it would happen getting up there.
Sounds like it would be a great time.

Great idea John, When I was stationed out there in the 80's at Ellsworth AFB the wife and I would often cruise the gravel roads between the Hill City area and the Wyoming line. Hours of peaceful open air cruising, especially in the winter. Are the Badlands areas where they held the offroad racing events still open?

I don't think they have the badlands race anymore. They have a fit if you drive off the paved road there. The Forest Service has re-marked the road system and those marked TR or trail require a off road sticker no matter what, that costs $25.00 PER VEHICHLE. I'll be planning the route in advance to avoid that. The special interest groups in Washington DC that lobby against the use of public lands would prefer all lands be closed to use by us. In other words all roads and trails to be closed except those marked open. There still are beautiful places to go and see. Also some fun Jeep areas. We'll top out on at least one fire lookout. Spectacular views. Getting here is a matter of a pickup and trailer and commitment to a touring vacation. Cost and time is the big issue for people to decide. You Jeep people are sure welcome to attend! John

What about attending without a Jeep? Ride shotgun or rear seat? I've been thinking about a vacation trip to the area, and this would give me a specific reason to actually do it. Figured June was prime time for it. Have a cousin in the sand hills of northern Nebraska to visit, want to see the Badlands, the Black Hills, and Mt. Rushmore, and visit Ft. Laramie in eastern Wyoming. Would probably fly to Denver and rent a car for a big loop road trip.

Stay in touch. I believe a seat or two would definitely be available and you could provide conversation, tips, clues, moral support, jokes, stories, hook up the tow cables, chains, and it looks like you are no stranger to Jeeps! The biggest problem I see is you will dearly miss having your Jeep there!

Wes, you need to return to the Hills. Bring your wife and go back to those places in a Jeep. I still have a cold reward for you with your name on it!

John, checked the map-980 mi from my place to yours, that in itself
is not out of the realm of possibility. BUT... the IMVPA MV rally
is the weekend before, the vintage airshow is the weekend after
and i'm leavin on a 10day wagon train at months end. June is
BUSY man.. I'll lock you in for 2015 brother..
