There was one USAF M38 at the MVPA National. It was placed on disply by Jake Shetka. The markings are rather unusual but the color is very close although just a little too glossy.

So would the od frame be correct? Mine is black right now and I will probably leave it black. To get a little off topic I still could use some help with markings My hood number I think should be
52A***** But I have seen some using a K instead of A I was able to find some yellow on my hood but couldnt make it out, have not checked the other side of the hood because of a very think layer of some paint like material that doesnt sand to easy.
Bill,
I don't think these markings are very accurate. I never recall seeing stars on a blue USAF vehicle. The year letter registration number arrangement was a later 50's thing. If you lok at the Army hood markings on the M38A1 page you'll see the Army went to the number letter number deal in the mid 50's as well. They did not change the earlier registration numbers. I believ the USAF did the same thing. Since no M38's were produced for our Army or Air Force after 52 it would make sense that M38's would only have the old 7 and 8 digit straight registration numbers. As you should have been able to see in the photos I sent before the USAF kept the long numbers on the M38 and just relocated them 2 or 3 times over the years. _________________ Wes K

Thanks wes. I just want to make sure I mark the jeep correctly. Do you have any ideas on how I maybe able to recover my hood numbers? I have done some sanding and found yellow paint looks to be maybe a 0 but cant make anything else out, maybe using a finer sand paper to locate the numebers will work.
A fine grit wet sanding paper and a lot of patience. _________________ Wes K
