The Great Willys Picnic, Car Show and Swap Meet

June 14, 2009 from 10 am - 3 pm at the No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum
9 Dock Street, Lansford, PA (Please note the exciting new location for 2009!!!)

It's time to plan for the 10th annual Great Willys Picnic, Swap Meet and Car Show. All vehicles are welcome: stock, modified, projects, CJs, Wagons, Trucks, Jeepsters, Military, Cars, and even GPW's! Every pre-1970 vehicle is eligible to win contests and door prizes. Bring your Willys memorabilia and interesting parts for show and tell. Along with the show is a swap meet where you can buy, sell or trade any Willys parts. Be sure to arrive early because at 3:00 PM the contest winners are announced and the prizes are awarded. This event is the best place to meet other enthusiasts, get answers to all your technical questions, and show off your Jeep (even if it isn't finished). Be sure to mark the date on your 2009 Jeep Classics Calendar now!

The picnic will be held on the grounds of the historic No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum, located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, Pennsylvania, just off U.S. Route 209, halfway between the historic towns of Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua. This is a great setting to display our classic Willys vehicles, as well entertainment for the whole family. Closed in 1972, the mine was re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Visitors can take a train ride into the mine to see and experience first hand what it was like for old time miners to work underground. There is also plenty to look at in the museum: work clothes hanging in wire baskets, tools including drills, picks, shovels, blasting equipment and even lunch cans, caps, and lamps! Exhibits include a life sized replica of a mule tender boy and his mine mule, a large photographic collection, handmade models, beautifully handcrafted items carved of coal, original paintings, railroad artifacts, fossils and gems, a model of a coal colliery (made for the New York Worlds Fair), maps, signs, and a mucking machine, coal fired furnace, a replica of an 1800’s miner's kitchen, and much more.

In case of rain we will also have access to the Picnic Pavilion. As always, the Willys Picnic, Show and Swap Meet is free. The optional Mine Tour & Museum admission is only $7.00 per person; Museum only without underground mine tour is just $3.00 per person.

If you are planning to attend, bring a vehicle, or have any questions please send an e-mail to 52cj3a@gmail.com
Check the Picnic web-page for any updates. http://www.cj3a.info/picnic

The Willys Picnic is centrally located right in the heart of Jeep Country. Just 3 months to go! Be sure to bring your Jeeps out to this great event.

Bob

Your 38 is nice. Did not get a chance to meet you, but the picnic was good
and it was a nice day. Hope to have my 38 there next year.

Scott,

I was wandering around the field all day admiring all the Willys (and closely related) vehicles. I hope to see your Jeep and meet you next year!

We had a great turnout! 50 registered vehicles in the show. MBs, M-38s, M-38A1s, M-170, M-724, and we even had an M-37. Did I miss anything? And of course all the non-military vehicles too!

The event will be in the same location on June 13, 2010.

Nice!!! I will plan to bring my CJV-35 also. It's not often that you can see 2 V-35s in the same place.
