M606 or M38a1 Rims?

Two types of Rims arrived at Argentina with the M38A1 and M606. One it known by you (that of the small hole) and the other is the one that can see in the album.know this model of rim, in which other vehicles places.greetings

The rim you have pictures of looks very similar to the M38A1 rim, but I am not sure that it has the saftey bead.

Many civilian rims did not have the saftey bead.

I do not know about the wheels issued to the M606, but it would not suprise me if that rim is from an M606.

I noticed it has an ORD number. That should make it easier to trace back to its original application.

Do you have the parts manual for the M606? Someone here should have one.

The Argentine soldiers mixed all the rims and we do not have the certainty of which goes in each Jeep.
The rim of the small hole has the logo KelseyHayes and the date **/62. All the M38a1 are of the year 62 and they have correlative series number.
Different happens with the M606. They arrived in departures separated during the years 1965 / 1966 /1967 / 1968

I have 2 of that type rim on my M-38, they are the ones with the ridges between the lug holes... I thought they wre a civilian rim put on by a PO... maybe replacements placed there by the Canadian Military...

On another note, The M606 series used the civvy parts manual and service manual but had supplements published for the military for the military specific stuff. I would imagine that evry M606 part even if procured from the civvy manual had a ORD # assigned to it. It would really be nice to stumble across a ORD 9 or similar document for the M606 series.

I thought mine were wrong too.

My '52 M38A1 came with all 5 wheels had the ridges. All the tires look like original military tires.

Mine also came with a M606 front bumper.

I do not believe those wheels were Willys installed before 1960. If your 52 A1 is a factory restored class resto you'll need the earlier wheels.

In the 54 Years (thats more than half a century!)_ ) only God knows who swapped in what. On the average a 52 M38A1 would have been surplused out of the military about 1965 till 1970. So a replacement set of wheels that Willys built in 1960 could have ended up on your A1 before it was surplused out. Or the A1 you have could have been restored 3 times before it got to you and a civvy owner may have installed the current set of wheels. If you're motor pool class then run em!
