Aaron,
That rod is easy to make. Buy some 5/16" rod. Bend one end
90 degrees with about an inch of straight after the bend.
Thread that end 5/16-24.
Now take the rod and drop that threaded end into the hole in
the cowl opposite of the radiator bracket. Lay the rod forward
and drop it into the bracket. Note at the crossover tube/hose
you should bend the rod a few degrees to clear the tube.
Now give yourself another inch past the bracket towards
the front, mark the rod there, and cut it off. Make a mark just
to the rear of the bracket, take to the vise, and thread 5/16-24
to that mark. You'll want enough thread for a nut on either side
of the bracket.
Done.
All you need now are some nuts, locks and flats. Sand,
prime, paint, and install.

Hi Rick !
According to TM9-1804A page 17:
B. Disconnect Radiator-Brace Rod (fig. 7). Loosen retaining
nut on radiator; remove brace rod from slotted bracket, swing
rod out of position from pivot end, and lay brace rod on cowl.
Fig. 7 shows a nut, washer, bracket and another nut on the rad
end.
Seemed to me you wouldn't want the cowl end free to rattle
or even come out. I threaded my cowl end. No factory resto
here, might be lucky to get a motor pool car. Plus, one more
rattle to chase I didn't need !
Take care,
Brian
Ps. 19. Power Plant Removal From Vehicle has the below:
b. All disconnect points are painted yellow as a guide for
for removing the assembly.

By the way, in the ORD 9 page 95 under rod, brace are listed
3 nut, plain. Et al 5/16-24
2 washer, lock 5/16
2 washer. Flat 5/16
So at least when this version of the Ord 9 parts list was published
they were putting three nuts, two lock washers, and two flat
washers somewhere in the immediate vicinity of Rod, Brace.
OK Guys. Let's all get on the same page. Try page 76 of Ryan's M38 Guide.
K is the radiator to firewall support rod. (Threaded ends)
P & Q are the radiator to front engine mount support rods. (Un-threaded ends)
P = Radiator to firewall brace. (Threaded)
Lower left corner of photo is radiator support rod (un-threaded) _________________ Wes K

Sorry for not clarifying on my first post as to which rod I need! It is the support that goes from the top of the radiator to the firewall. _________________ Aaron

Hi Aaron,
So Rod, Brace.
In any case both of those rods can be handmade.
If you can't find one and don't want to make one I will make
one for you. It may be a couple of weeks before I can start on
it. Be brave! The die you can probably find at Fastenal or other
spot. The rod is sold at just about anywhere. The rest is just vise,
hammer, and file!
If you screw up just start over. That piece is isn't machine
tolerance to space shuttle specs.
