800376 is the correct casting number for an M38 head; right?

800376 is the correct Willys factory installed head. A generic later 60's & up head (IE 807763) would be ok for a non-factory resto.

I just recieved a photo of the 800376 head I am looking at and it does not have a hole in the front for the bypass hose. Is this possible? Though the 800376 casting was exclusive to the M38 engines.

No the 800376 casting was not exclusive to the M38 but that casting was probably available with different machining actions done on it. If Willys assigned the same part number to the head as the casting number for the M38 then that indicates the 800376 basic delivered head is as we've always seen it with the raised boss for the bypass hose drilled and tapped. If Willys had an application for the head that wasn't drilled and tapped then it would have the basic casting number on the head and a different part number in it's parts book.

There are several Post WWII heads with the raised boss both drilled and undrilled. There's no poblem with drilling the boss to insert the hose nipple.
