Hi I'm new to this site and would appreciate your help.
I live in France and there are quite a lot of Willys for sale in various conditions.
Problem is I don't know what to buy? Which year is best etc.
I'm guessing the war period would be best ie up to 1946
If in that time it should be petrol not diesel?
There are a lit with diesels in them which would be my preference but I guess replaced the engine in this period to diesel ,

If I go to 1950 are we still in petrol ? When or what do l look for to get an early Deisel ? Or are they problematic against petrol?

Hope someone can help please my budget us around 6500€ and a lot for sale ,are they a good investment ?

Hello Skid,

None of the production Willys/Kaiser military jeeps came with diesels. Willys/Kaiser did experiment with a Perkins diesel in it's mid 60's civilian production jeeps. Many of the foreign license built Willys/Kaiser jeeps did come with diesels both civilian and military from 1946 on.

The war period jeeps 1941-1945 generally command higher prices and yes they were all petrol.

The 1950's -1971 Willys / Kaiser ride nicer and have a good selection of replacement parts both military & civilian with the m38A1 being the strongest running and best handling of the group.

If it's resale value you are wanting to get then the original WWII period Willys MA or MB will offer you the most value.

If it's later , higher power, better handling and easier adaptability to modern diesel power plants you wish then go with the m38A1 US built or Dutch NEKAF built.
