I've discovered tags on the differentials of my 1951 M38. Each tag is marked with "W", "43", and "8". The markings are not in line. I've got them soaking in a solution and will take a picture once cleaned. Anyone know what the markings mean? |

Most, if not all, gearing on the M38 was 5.38.
43÷8 = 5.375 ( 5.38 )
I believe its 43 teeth on the ring gear and 8 on the pinion side.
The "w" on tag? Cant help _________________ 1952 M38 project

Might be "M" rather than "W". Matter of perspective. |

| Both look like yours. I removed them as the differentials are headed for the blaster and didn't want them blasted away. |
